This Rustic
Shaker Side Chair will be perfectly at home by your writing
desk, at the dining table or as an occasional chair in your
living room. Artisan Cheryl Evans blends the
comfort and simple style of Shaker design with Rustic Twig
construction to create an eye-catching, yet sturdy and comfortable
chair.
She harvests
young alder (a renewable resource from the farmlands of
Western Quebec) to build the frame. Traditional mortise
and tenon joinery combined with modern adhesives ensure strength
and durability. Then, she weaves the seat from all cotton
fabric tape, a technique favoured by Shaker craftsmen for
its long-lasting comfort, colour, and durability. Finally,
a hand-rubbed tung oil finish is applied to protect the wood
and enhance the natural red and brown tones of the alder.
Given
the natural materials used in creating this chair, you can
expect to see some minor variation in the form and placement
of the smaller twigs used for the back and rungs.
Chair
