The clean
design of the rustic twig frame combined with a cotton fabric
seat and back make this a very comfortable, unique chair,
perfect for living room, library or covered porch.
Canadian
rustic furniture maker Cheryl Evans harvests
young alder (a renewable resource from the farmlands of Western
Quebec) to build the frame. Traditional mortise and tenon
joinery combined with modern adhesives ensure its strength
and durability. The seat and back are woven from all cotton
fabric tape, a technique favoured by Shaker craftsmen for
its long-lasting comfort, colour, and durability. (In fact,
over 150 feet of tape are used to create the seat and back
for this chair!) Finally, a hand-rubbed tung oil finish
is applied to protect the wood and enhance the natural red
and brown tones of the alder.
Given
the natural materials used in creating this chair, there may
be minor variation in the form of the frame (but you can ask
for a simple peaked back as shown below, or for a "viney"
back as shown at left).
Chair
