About
the Artist
Working with polymer clay since 1994, Margi Laurin is one
of a small but growing number of artists who is committed
to pushing the limits of this medium as an art form. She loves
the endless possibilities that polymer allows her in forming
colour combinations and product ideas. There are virtually
no limits!
And,
if you saw the crowds that form around her booth at major
craft fairs, you'd have no doubt that she is succeeding!
Margi's
work has appeared in catalogues, calendars (including the
Year 2000 Polymer Art Calendar) and books in Canada and the
United States.
Born
and raised in Brampton, Ontario, Margi now lives in Morrisburg
with her three teenagers and husband Sam.
Her Work
While polymer clay is a relatively
new artist's compound, the "Millefiori" technique
used in the creation of many of the pieces is an ancient art.
Believe
it or not, there is NO painting involved.
Each original clay art piece is designed and
crafted by Margi. To create her unique
functional and decorative works, she skillfully works with
coloured polymer clay using a variety of techniques including
as caning, impressing, drawing and transferring
on baked clay, sanding, and a range of finishing processes.
Her colour palette is often achieved by researching design
styles from different eras then adapting and altering the
colours into pleasing contemporary combinations.
All works are signed or stamped and dated.
